Cosmopolis

Canadian writer and director David Cronenberg's career takes a wrong turn with this lifeless adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel. A young billionaire's life takes a downward spiral during a day in Manhatten where he meets several characters. Cronenberg seems the wrong director for the material and setting that needs a faster pace and jolts of energy which the talented cast can't save. The most obvious problems lies with the direction, editing and use of music which could have made a big difference. Robert Pattinson stars with a stellar supporting cast that includes Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Paul Giamatti and Mathieu Amalric amongst others. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
